Why you need a blood pressure monitor
Whether you want to track your health or you have already been diagnosed with high blood pressure (also known as hypertension), it is necessary to have a self-taking blood pressure kit at home.
Especially for patients who have sustained hypertension, regular blood pressure measurement can help assess whether their anti-hypertension treatment is sufficiently effective. Compared with the measurement conducted in a hospital or clinical setting, a long period of self-measurement provides a comprehensive, detailed set of BP (blood pressure) readings that can better represent a patient’s true blood pressure.
Surely, home-based blood pressure monitors are more portable. Now, there are three common types of home-based blood pressure monitors: upper arm type, wrist type, and finger type. The finger type is the most portable, but based on a comprehensive analysis of portability and accuracy, the wrist type is the most acceptable.
As explained above, as long as you can often measure your blood pressure at home with a portable and accurate blood pressure monitor, you can be confident that multiple periods of readings measured over several days/months are more reliable than those measures taken during a single visit to a clinic or hospital.
